Background Information

Crunchy yet butter textured, delicious and incredibly health-beneficial, Cedar kernels come from the cones of the mighty Siberian cedar. These kernels are considered the most valuable type of nuts in the world, and for a good reason. The therapeutic properties of Cedar kernels are unique, numerous and crucial to our health (and now you get to enjoy them).

Composition

The benefits of Cedar kernels are due to their chemical composition. They contain significant amounts of nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, omega-3 fatty acids and amino acids. 100 g of Cedar kernels contain such a number of trace elements that can provide a person’s daily requirement for manganese, copper, zinc and cobalt. They are rich in vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, E, D, C, K, PP), but their main feature are phytosterols that will help to lower your LDL and total cholesterol levels.

It is important to note that while Cedar kernels are a high calorie snack, their glycemic index is only 15 units, which allows them to be called a dietary product.

Cedar kernels are beneficial for:

  • Cardiovascular system: they contribute to the elimination of “bad” LDL cholesterol and increase the elasticity of blood vessels, preventing atherosclerosis;
  • Digestive tract: they improve the digestive process and the functioning of the stomach;
  • Nervous system: they positively affect the brain function; help to get rid of insomnia, excessive nervousness and depression;
  • Immune system: they restore strength and vitality; make up for the deficiency of vitamins and nutrients;
  • The metabolism: despite the high calorie content, they contribute to weight loss;
  • The improvement of the skin, nail and hair condition.

Note: If you eat the kernels only once or twice, it will not affect the state of your health. To achieve the desired effect, eat them daily, but do not exceed the recommended dose.

Contraindications

  • Individual intolerance;
  • Chronic diseases in their acute stage (peptic ulcer, pancreatitis, cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, biliary dyskinesia, etc.);
  • Children under 3 y.o.

Side Effects

  • Allergic reactions;
  • Nausea, heaviness in the stomach or an unpleasant aftertaste in the mouth (rare, but may occur if you abuse the product).

How to Use

Ground Cedar kernels go wonderfully with chicken and fish, and are an excellent salad topping. You can also add them to your yogurt, or porridge, or bakery, or, basically, anything to make a healthy dessert or a snack. Your imagination is the limit.

Cedar kernels can also compensate the “protein hunger” in those who switched to vegetarian food, since their protein is close in composition to human tissue proteins and is absorbed by the body by 99%, so they may serve as a go-to alternative to meat.

How many kernels can be eaten without harming your figure or your health? .

If a person is absolutely healthy, eats rationally and has no problems with being overweight, then 30 g of Cedar kernels per day is the optimal dose.

Excess weight is not a contraindication, but the daily norm should be reduced to 20 g. The same dose goes for elderly people.

If you have weight deficit, the dose should be increased to 60 g, and the same amount is recommended for people with diabetes (with the consent of their doctor).

Kids’ dose is 10-30 g, but be mindful of allergies and the choking hazard!

Storage and Handling: The unopened package of Cedar kernels must be stored in a cool, dark place at the temperature up to 20°C, because under high temperature or direct sunlight the kernels get rancid and bitter.

After opening a 100 g package, eat the kernels in 3-4 days. If you bought a bigger package or decided to save some kernels for later, you need to put small portions them in plastic bags and send them for storage in the freezer. Do not refreeze them!

Shelf life: 12 months. Do not use after the expiration date.
